Day 3: Your first love

First love is complicated subject. I think that what most people think of as their first “love” is not “love” at all. This may not be true…. But it is my experience.
In my mind my first love was my husband. Maybe was isn’t the right word. He IS my first love. He is an amazing man. He goes above and beyond to treat me like a princess. He isn’t perfect, I’m not perfect but I honestly believe that are imperfections are what make us so perfect for each other.

Day 2: Meaning behind your blog name

My blog's name is pretty self explanatory, if you have been reading my blog since I started it (wait do people read my blog??) you would know that it started out just being about Spiky! Since then it has evolved to a bunch of random chatter.

31 Day Blog Challenge Day 1: Introduce, recent picture of yourself, 15 interesting facts

I warned you I was probably going to suck at this challenge. So here we are on March 2, and I am just now doing Day 1 of the challenge, which means I have to go and do two days worth of Challenges in one day!
To introduce myself... I am Spike's Mom... I am the stepmom to The Boy, The Gooze and The Bug. and yes that is what we call them 85% of the time. I work in a city located in the north-central region of the Gulf of Mexico doing police dispatch, 12 hour shifts over night.
15. Interesting facts
1. I have very few close friends; I always expect them to leave so I don't get close to anyone anymore.
2. I changed my degree from Graphic Design, to Psychology, spent two years in Psych and decided to drop out of college all together. This is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
3. I dread the day that the kids decide they want to go to Disney, I do not fare well in the happiest place on earth.
4. I am the oldest of 5 (7 if you count my stepbrothers)
5. I am slightly misanthropic
6. I have worked with the same people for almost 7 years. I know very little personal information about most of them.
7. I vividly remember the worst calls I have ever had at work, and still have nightmares about them.
8. I can't play a single musical instrument (I'm trying to learn guitar) but I can see most songs if they are in the key of A.
9. My youngest sibling is 6 weeks younger than my son.
10. Sometimes I am completely overwhelmed being a wife and mother.
11. I like to take pictures...
12. I tend to distance myself from people.
13. I lost most of my friends from High School when I started working for a police department.
14. I am married to my best friend
15. I was the babysitter.

I am...

I am by no means a famous blogger. I am not pithy or overly humorous. I am who I am. I am Spike’s mom, I am a stepmother to 3 wonderful children, I am a wife to a wonderful man who goes above and beyond to make me feel like a princess, I am a woman with PCOS, and I am a {insert occupation here}. While these things influence who I am they are not who I am. I am far more than all of that.
For starters I used to be a college student, I was working on a BA in Psychology, and then I found out that Psychology is not what I thought it was going to be and I dropped out, yep I am a college drop out. I really thought that I would regret this decision, but I don’t. Not at all, not one little bit. Its only been two months and already I feel relieved. No longer do I have to “neglect” the Spike in order to get school work done. No more do I have to stress about deadlines, due dates and what my next paper topic is going to be. The only down side is that I LOVE writing. Like absolutely love it, I don’t really like the research part of writing but the actual putting thoughts on paper (or word) is very satisfying. I know that one day I will find more things to write about and more time to write, but as of now I am really enjoying just working and being Spike’s mom.
By the way, at some point in the last month Spike decided to turn 2, and apparently turning 2 means that he is drawing on himself with pens that I cannot find before or after the new Spike tattoo is drawn, he is also climbing on top of furniture, like book cases, boxes, you name it he climbs on it.

What makes a house a home?

It is time for a vocabulary lesson oh great and you know that its going to be torture fun!
Word one: house noun: a building for human habitation, esp. one that is lived in by a family or small group of people
Word two: home noun: the place where one live permanently, esp. as a member of a family or household

Most people think that these words are interchangeable. Clearly as clear as mud they are not. In my mind a house is just somewhere you eat, sleep, watch tv etc. A home is where you raise your family.

We have lived in our current house since August of 2008, for starters I don't like it, I've never liked it but it was a place to live. In all this time I have yet to decorate, the walls are the same color as they were when we moved in. There are 4 pictures on the wall, and that has just been in the last year. When we first moved in I decorated the children's bathrooms, there is no theme for bedrooms, our bedroom has curtains that my mom made and those were also put up when we moved in.
Well a series of unfortunate events has made it so that we are moving. and we are not just moving... We are moving to a HOME!
In the next few weeks we are moving from our current house to a new home! on one level I feel a little overwhelmed; but on every other level I am totally excited!
I do feel like we are starting over but in a good way. I actually want to paint and decorate and save the money for a tree house and whatever else. I finally feel like we are going to be somewhere permanent and it is a major relief

those secret hidden blessings....

you know those little things in life you find to be utterly annoying... like you have a flat tire so you have to find somewhere to air it up and you don't have any quarters but then a nice person walks over and gives you quarters to you can air up your tires, or, you spend your teenage years being all pure and what not because you know the first time you have sex you'll get pregnant; only to find out at 24 that you have PCOS and require months of fertility treatments to get pregnant, or you start a business think you are doing really well only to do your taxes and find out that you actually lost over $500 this year... yeah me either...
So Friday I get ready for work, go out to my car, check my tires (yes I really do that before I get in my car EVERYDAY) and realize that my rear passenger tire is flat, like way omg flat. Luckily there is a gas station a block from my house, so I go in the house find some quarters drive to the gas station put my quarters in the machine and of course the machine is out of order. Its Friday afternoon after 5 the store is super busy so I decide to push my luck and drive 5 1/2 miles to the next store, at the red light old guy and grandson (?) pull up next to me and tell me that my tire is flat. Well duh big red truck... I nodded , thanked them and went on my merry way. Thankfully I made it to the next gas station but I had no more quarters, I refuse to ask people for money because, well idk why, maybe pride or embarrassment, who knows. But while I was frantically searching my car for enough change to make a dollar to go in the store and get changed a nice person stopped and asked if I was ok and gave me quarters to put air in my tires. See there's the hidden blessing.

Tonight I was doing the schedule c part of my taxes. I had really thought that b & b designs had done good this year but I was apparently wrong once I added it all up. However I can honestly say that I gave it my best shot, and that sense of accomplishment is yet again another blessing....
and then we have the Spike, the product of the years of infertility he's not so much a hidden blessing and more an in your face "hi I'm red headed and crazy" blessing.
So don't look for the negatives, look at what the negatives turn into positives and remember that the next time you face a negative head on :)
